We’ve hoped to keep you updated on all the developments in the world of gaming. In the past one year, we’ve kept you covered on everything about mobile gaming , and the gaming potential of the iphone.
Any gaming fan would definitely have lived the earlier years of his life playing DOOM. So, when idsoftware , the creators of the genre announced DOOM 4 , fans were obviously overjoyed. This time, recent news confirms that DOOM will now debut on the iPhone. Earlier, Wolfenstein 3D, another age old FPS shooter came to the iPhone with the creator releasing the code as well. The Wolfenstein kept to the original version for all those fans of retro gaming.
The new iPhone game all set to debut next week is no mere copy of the old DOOM series. The original (DOOM classic) is being brought to the iPhone as well.Doom Resurrection is a new game designed just for the iPhone. After Apple’s WWDC and the announcement of the new 3G , the next set of iPhone games are ready to hit it off. Gaming is already the most popular activity on the iPhone. The hype about the iPhone as a gaming platform is worth its salt, and the 3G has only boosted its potential with the improved hardware and extended battery life. On the 40 million iPhone and iPod Touches sold, games are the No. 1 application, accounting for more than 10,000 of the 50,000 iPhone apps created to date. John Carmack who led the project explained that though they initially faced a few hiccups downscaling the PC-backed platfrom for the game to the iPhone software, a few tricks with the graphics, changes to the shooting/aiming mechanisms and the game was ready for the iPhone.
The plot of the game is similar to that of Doom 3, but it takes place in a different part of the space station than the Doom 3 story. You are the sole Marine survivor on a remote research facility on Mars where all hell has broken loose in the form of demons from hell. Hence, it’s a completely original game in that sense. Players can talk with scientist characters in the game. And they can use all of the same weapons and fight the same monsters as in Doom 3. The game has eight full levels and about five hours of game play.
Further features like p2p cooperative multiplayer and other features can be unlocked after the launch of the iPhone 3.0 software . The news has already sparked a lot of discussion with people speculating about the return on the FPS genre. Whatever be the case, mobile gaming is all set to hit it off with the new iPhone. The sad news, however, for all Indian enthusiasts eager to sample the 3G S and its opportunities for gaming, is that they’ll have to wait till the 7th of August 2009. Till then, we’ll keep you updated on all the latest developments.
